Bitcoin's three address formats all still work
Bitcoin has accumulated several address styles over the years and every one of them remains spendable, which is why a payout screen and an old wallet can show addresses that look nothing alike.
- Legacy addresses beginning with 1 — the original format, still valid, most expensive to spend from
- P2SH addresses beginning with 3 — introduced with SegWit, widely supported
- Bech32 addresses beginning with bc1q — native SegWit, cheaper fees, now the common default
- Taproot addresses beginning with bc1p — the newest format, supported by modern wallets
The fee you attach decides how long you wait
Bitcoin fees are an auction for space in the next block, not a fixed price. When the mempool is busy, a transaction with a low fee can sit unconfirmed for hours or days — it has not failed, it simply has not been picked up. Most wallets estimate a fee for you, but the estimate is a guess about the next ten minutes. If you are selling into a moving market, pay the higher of the fee options: waiting six hours to save two dollars is a poor trade when the price can move several per cent in that time.
If your transaction is stuck
A Bitcoin transaction cannot be cancelled, but a low-fee one can usually be rescued. If your wallet enabled Replace-By-Fee when it sent, you can rebroadcast the same transaction with a higher fee. If not, Child-Pays-For-Parent works instead: spend the change output with a large enough fee that miners take both transactions together. Both are wallet features rather than anything we control. Send support the transaction ID and we will tell you what the network is showing.
Selling in person, and why people do
Most sales here settle to a bank account or a card. Bitcoin is also the asset people most often want to sell for cash across a counter, and both branches — Atlanta and Miami — handle that in person with the same verification as any other sale. It is the practical route for someone who does not want a bank transfer to arrive, or who wants the transaction finished the same hour. The OTC desk covers the other end of the size range, quoting firm prices on block orders rather than working them through the widget.
What to keep for your records
Selling Bitcoin for dollars is a disposal of property in the United States, and what you owe turns on your cost basis and how long you held it. That is straightforward when you bought once at a known price and harder when the coins arrived over years from several places. Keep the transaction record from the sale and the acquisition records that go with it. We can tell you what a sale settled at; we cannot reconstruct your basis, and we do not give tax advice.
How long does it take to send BTC to us?
Bitcoin settles on Bitcoin, where a transfer typically confirms in 10–60 minutes. A Bitcoin transfer is usually spendable after 1 confirmation (about 10 minutes) and considered final by most platforms after 2–6 confirmations, so 10–60 minutes is typical in 2026. Low-fee transactions during congestion can wait hours in the mempool before their first confirmation. We start your payout once the transfer has confirmed on-chain, so this is the part of a sale you are usually waiting on.
What does it cost to send BTC?
That is a Bitcoin network fee, paid to the network rather than to us: Roughly $0.50–$5 per transaction through most of 2025–2026, with spikes well above that during mempool congestion. See /fees-and-limits for what Anytime Capital charges.
What do BTC addresses look like?
Legacy (P2PKH): Starts with 1. Oldest format; highest fees per byte Check the first and last characters against the address on the payout screen before you send — a Bitcoin transfer cannot be reversed once it is confirmed.
